Organic Frankincense Essential Oil, undilluted, steam distilled resin (sap) from the Boswellia Serrata tree. Frankincense originates from a small but hardy tree indigenous to the Middle East. It is found in remote dry arid regions and has sparce clusters of leaves and white or pale pink flowers. The resin, a fragrant sticky milky-white liquid that flows like tears from the trunk of the tree when cut, make the Frankincense tree subject to over harvesting and disease. These dried tears of sap or resin are then collected to be steam distilled, producing the precious, sacred oil. The resin is known as olibanum, derived from the Arabic al-luban or 'that which comes from milking', referring to the milky white sap the cuts produce. Frankincense was brought back to Europe by Frankish Crusaders (Frank-incense), and the demand for this precious scarce oil is still highly coveted today.  Around the world it is used as incense, in perfumery, health-care as well as religious ritual. Historians and Archeaologists have discovered its long history of use and trade dating back over 5,000 years of human history. When thinking of Frankincense we often think of 3 Kings or Wisemen bearing gifts to the baby Christ Jesus or perhaps the mummified remains of a Pharroh. I like to refer to Frankincense as "The King of oils!".
